Prof. C.A.Veracini received his Doctor Degree in
Chemistry of the University of Pisa and the “Scuola Normale
Superiore” in 1966. He was lecturer at the Istitute of
Physical Chemistry, University of Pisa in Radiofrequency
Spectroscopy (1970-71) and in Molecular Spectroscopy
(1971-73).
From 1972 to 1983, he was Assistant Professor of Physical
Chemistry at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, University
of Pisa; during this period, he was Visiting Scientist to the
Physics Department, University of Basel (CH). He was nominated
Associate Professor of Molecular Spectroscopy at the
Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the
University of Pisa in 1983 and became Full Professor of
Molecular Spectroscopy in the same department in 1986. He has
been Secretary of the Italian Liquid Crystals Discussion Group
(GNCL) during the period 1979-82 and member of the committee
of the Italian Magnetic Resonance Discussion Group (GDRM) from
1982 to 1985. He received 1997 joint Gold Medal GDRM (Italian
Discussion Group on Magnetic Resonance) and GIRM-SCI (Interdivisional
Group on Magnetic Resonance) of the Italian Chemical Society.
He has been Member of the International Committee of Nuclear
Quadrupolar Interactions Society, co-editor of the proceedings
of the XIVth International Symposium on NQI Spectroscopy and
co-editor of Liquid Crystals 14th International Liquid Crystal
Conference special issue. He has been co-organizer of the
meeting’s series “Chianti Workshop on Magnetic Resonance” and
“Tropea meetings on NMR in oriented Phases”.
His scientific interests have been: Multiple Quantum
Transitions in NMR – the structure and conformation of
molecules by NMR using liquid crystal solvents – the structure,
organization and dynamics of liquid crystals by NMR
spectroscopy – Translational Diffusion techniques to
characterize Smectic L C.-13C NMR spectroscopy and relaxation
in polymers and solid state NMR. He is co-editor (and author
of two chapters) of the book “The Molecular Dynamics of Liquid
Crystals” Kluwer Ed.s (1989). He has published over 200
publications mainly in the field of ordered systems and has
been invited to present lectures in various Universities and
numerous international meetings.
He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the “Imago 7”
Foundation for Ultra High Field Imaging project.
Currently he is Director of the Dipartimento di Chimica e
Chimica Industriale of the Pisa University. |
