Organochalcogen compounds containing different donor atoms (nitrogen and/or oxygen) incorporated within the organic groups attached to the chalcogen atoms show a constantly interest based on the their successful use in coordination chemistry, as neutral ligands towards transition metals, being able to stabilize metal complexes with promising optical properties.[1,2]. Having this in mind, we prepared a library of diorganochalcogen(II) and diorganodichalcogen(I) species incorporating 2-C6H5-(4H)-oxazol-5-one fragments in their skeleton, capable of promoting optical properties. The coordination ability of such ligands was investigated towards late d metal. For the identification and characterization of the compounds multinuclear NMR (1H, 13C{1H}, 19F{1H}, 31P{1H}, 77Se{1H}), IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, molar conductivity, and mass spectrometry were employed. Selected species were investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. UV-Vis and fluorescence spectra were recorded for the ligands and for their metal complexes to establish the optical properties.
