Systems with extended conjugation are interesting and therefore intensively studied recently due to their electronic properties leading to applications in material science or medicine. The design of such systems is often based on the potential synergism resulting from the interaction of fragments/molecules already prone to conjugation. Starting from phenothiazines with classic and green synthetic protocols were obtained novel phenothiazine-cored dyes. The obtained phenothiazine-based dyes were characterized both structurally and photophysically. Some of the obtained dyes were tested as photosensitizer/ NIR staining agents.
